Winter Storm for Christmas Day

Messy winter weather on tap for Christmas and boxing day.

This is a heads up that a messy winter storm may develop over Texas
in the next few days and move northeast towards Ontario by Christmas.
Current analysis indicates that the storm will start as snow over
Southwestern Ontario Christmas eve night with a risk of freezing rain
Before changing into rain.  This wintery mix of snow..Rain and risk
of freezing rain is expected to move across the lower lakes and north
to Georgian Bay on Christmas before reaching Eastern Ontario late in
The day.  In general..Given that this is a busy time for holiday
travel this wet and messy weather pattern could hinder travel.

Weather prediction models are having difficulty determining the exact
path and speed of this storm but they are trending towards the first
initial shot of snow and freezing rain followed by above freezing
temperatures and rain.  Hence it is looking more and more like a
mostly green Christmas for many areas near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario
including much of the Golden Horseshoe.

As the storm heads further north towards Québec..There is the
potential for cold Arctic air to flood across Ontario.  Snow squall
activity may set up over areas to the Lee of Lake Huron and Georgian
Bay on boxing day.

Environment Canada will continue to monitor this developing situation
closely.
